I have recently moved to Cardiff and am a keen walker. In london I ran a walking group that followed the ‘Time Out’ books 1 and 2 which I found very good, giving train times, suggestions and contact details for lunch, easy to follow directions inclucing compass references and good maps. Is there anything similar for south Wales area? I prefer to do self guided rather then led/ramblers group walks and can drive to the start of walks or take the train. Happy to do anything from 5 to 20 miles a day - suggestions for good walks or sites welcome. so far I have done Blorenge near Abergavenny, Rhossilli on Gower, Peny Y Fan, and other short walks around Cardiff Bay area. suggestions welcome - I miss Time Out! (but I don’t miss London…) thanks"

Possibly not what you’re really looking for, but it might point you in the right direction.

Great question. The best this week might I add. It has been a long week on here. Too many ‘does he love me?’ or ‘I’m I pregnant?’ type questions. At last the light at at the end of the tunnel that is your question. I’m interested to hear you ‘ran’ a walking group does that not go against the grain?! Also I must agree with your not missing London statement neither do I…never lived there but none the less don’t miss it one bit. Anyway we digress. I’m afraid to say that you have chosen an area of our great nation that can only be described as stagnant. They don’t walk, they just sit around being lazy, they will drive to where ever it is they need to buy a pint or a pie but they are predominantly static. My friend I speak from experience as far too many of my close family are from that area and I have experienced the region at first hand. My best advise on the matter is to walk and continue walking…away from the area, don’t look back, have no regrets. Just chalk it down to experience. Good luck
